The king of the underground Tyler, the Creator is currently streaming his new album. The new album titled Cherry Bomb is currently streaming on Spotify. In this album the listener can clearly tell Tyler’s maturity; though still blunt, he improves as a songwriter by combining other genres of music outside of hip hop so each track encompasses its own individual power. While Tyler’s overall improvement as an artist shines with this new album, guest spots from other iconic rappers such as Kanye West and Lil Wayne are hard to ignore.
From what I listened to on Spotify, this is my favorite album by Tyler right next to Goblin. Cherry Bomb starts off strong with “Deathcamp”, a catchy track with an upbeat atmosphere and Tyler’s coined rapid rhymes. His theme of “I don’t like to follow the rules” proves Tyler is one of the main figures representing the modern youth generation. The high-energy environment continues with the next track, “Buffalo”. While it’s slower, the heavy percussion in the beats makes the song much more intense. A lot of fans were critiquing the heavy distortion, claiming it wasn’t mixed well. Me personally, I think with a song such as this one it works; it creates heavier vibrations making the song explode with insanity. The title track “Cherry Bomb” is an extremely complex song, starting off completely fierce and slowly toning down the vibe for a more soulful song. Overall, each track is unique proving Tyler is the most innovative force in hip hop.
You can purchase Cherry Bomb on iTunes for $10.99.
